Do yourself a favor and if you don't want to spend the money for a new HP cartridge, buy a recycled cartridge. Refilling your own is very messy and may cause ink leaks inside the printer - which will make a real mess and probably void your warranty. Leave the refilling to the companies that do it commercially.

I second that- those refill kits are the biggest damn mess and waste of time ever.
I'd only refill an obsolete and unavailable, cartridge if ever.

I third the notion. I researched this same question on forums like this. The vote was 70/30 in favor of NOT re-inking. Some people destoryed their printers....

I've also noticed the ink from those kits takes abit longer to dry.
Pages smudge easier and when printing both sides the ink gets onto rollers.
Had to take extra precaution to make sure each page was dry.

Personally, I really think it has a lot to do with the printer. I've heard the most horror stories with a Cannon about leaking cartridges and a big mess inside the printer. I have an old Lexmark 1020 that I still use, I will re-fill my black cartridge as it is really easy to do without a big mess. I would get my biggest savings from re-filling the colour cartridge, but that involves breaking the glue joint on the upper and lower halves, re-filling, then re-sealing the package. That just sounds like too much work as well as being too messy to be worth the trouble, so I just buy a new cartridge. Another thing to keep in mind is that you can't just keep re-filling them either. Cartridges that have the print head right on them do wear out as ink contains solids for the pigment which will wear out the jets over time causing leakage and smearing. Other cartridges that act as a reservoir only will eventually wear out the seal between the cartridge and the printer carrage causing leakage. Epson outright tells you NOT to remove and re-install the cartridge.

Cool

I got a refil kit from ink'n'stuff http://www.inknstuff.com for my HP that is very easy to use and not at all messy. Time will tell if it works out OK in the printer.

If you don't want to do it yourself, order a jetpak from www.atlascopy.com It's only $15.95 with no shipping and they pay the postage both ways on your print cartridge. Your refilled cartridge will give you great results with significant savings. My color cartridge from Lexmark is sold for $32.88 at Walmart, $15.95 from Atlascopy.

They also have remanufacturered cartridges at significant savings too, but they charge shipping on these so it is not as great a bargains as it seems. For instance my 12a1980 color cartridge would be $22.95 plus $5.50 shipping. New at Walmart is $32.88

Re-filling HP inkjet cartridges is a snap, if you get a quality kit. I use the kit from FILLMORE REFILL INKS @ 65.99. ( BLack = 6 refills Color = 25 refills)
The black cartridge on the HP is a tank (no sponge) and is easy to refill. The Fillmore site has instructions on how to do it. One addition to the refill instructions that I do is to seal around the set screw with a little superglue.

Can we have the address for FILLMORE please (fillmore.com isn't working and fillmore.co.uk is a highly under-developed family website)

Sorry for the trouble,

Jim
